Maple Leaf Vessel

The art making process

I lay awake at night, plotting execution of a sculpture, considering shapes and materials, ultimately getting up to jot down notes in my sketchbook.  Sometimes the nighttime idea generation is like going into a cave, with a candle, and looking at the paintings on the walls.  Looking at light and shadow, at patterns in rivers, sunlight on water, the shape of a wooden burl, I find inspiration on my walks.  Nature informs the work and provides material constantly. The work shifts and changes, and it is an evolving thing, like an organism.

Is is visible?
Or is it beyond the naked eye...
I show you bits and parts and the wholeness exists
as the very foundation of Being
