I lay awake at night, plotting
execution of a sculpture, considering shapes and materials, ultimately getting
up to jot down notes in my sketchbook. Sometimes
the nighttime idea generation is like going into a cave, with a candle, and
looking at the paintings on the walls. Looking
at light and shadow, at patterns in rivers, sunlight on water, the shape of a
wooden burl, I find inspiration on my walks.
Nature informs the work and provides material constantly. The work
shifts and changes, and it is an evolving thing, like an organism.
